Project Proposal

Coming all the way from Austria to Panama, Louis Martinz, an ambitious and successful man, explored the area of Chiriqui many years ago. Louis fell in love with the land he had come across because it greatly resembled his homeland, and therefore bought some properties. He had a vision and went after it. In these properties he developed a coffee farm, La Florentina, and a dairy farm together with a thoroughbred farm called Carinthia. He would produce all sorts of products such as milk and its derivates, ham, and also harvested all kinds of vegetables. The coffee was exported to North America and other continents such as Europe. The town started to grow around the farms, and he strongly contributed to the development by offering job opportunities and promoting local production. Unfortunately, he passed away in 1968 and products such as cheese, other derivates from milk and ham were postponed until further notice. The coffee exportation, milk, harvest of vegetables and horse breeding were kept in development. This town has grown in popularity over the past years, known for its good ecological values and its lovely weather. Louis Martinz, being a man so ahead of his time, saw this potential many years ago.
This man happened to be my great grandfather, a very hardworking and inspirational person. All his visions and traditions have passed throughout the family and now my dad is in charge of running the farms. I want to contribute to his vision and help promote local products as well as local craftsmanship and culture. I will create the packaging for the coffee “La Florentina” as well as for the milk produced in “Carinthia”, and by doing so, help create job opportunities and stimulate the local economy.
